Open Day Entertainment Sydney, What Performing for Families Taught Me
Recently, Kylie and I performed at a childcare open day in Dundas, and honestly, it reminded me why family audiences are some of the most rewarding people to perform for.
The event was for Rise & Shine Kindergarten, who were welcoming local families into their centre for an open day. They already had a magician booked earlier in the day, and our role was to come in afterwards and help maintain the energy and atmosphere throughout the event.
And honestly, that’s something I think people underestimate when planning open day entertainment in Sydney.
Keeping momentum alive at a family event is hard.
Anyone can create a quick burst of excitement, but keeping families engaged, connected and genuinely present for hours is a completely different skill.
Keeping Energy Alive at Family Events
When Kylie and I arrived, there was already a really lovely atmosphere in the space.
Families were chatting.
Children were exploring.
Parents were getting a feel for the centre.
But after years of performing live entertainment, I’ve realised atmosphere can shift very quickly at events.
Energy either builds, or it fades.
There’s rarely an in-between.
That’s why we approached this childcare entertainment Sydney performance less like “doing a show” and more like creating moments that would keep people connected together.

Why Children Are the Most Honest Audience
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that children are probably the most honest audience you’ll ever perform for.
Adults are polite.
Kids are not.
If adults aren’t enjoying something, they’ll usually smile politely or quietly check their phones without making it too obvious.
Kids will simply disengage immediately.
But when they ARE engaged, the reaction is completely genuine.
The laughter is louder.
The excitement is real.
The participation becomes chaotic in the best possible way.
And honestly, I love that.
Performing kids entertainment Sydney shows has taught me that connection matters far more than technical perfection.
Children don’t care how difficult a trick is.
They care how it makes them feel.
The Circus Show and Audience Participation
For this particular event, Kylie and I combined a few different performance styles together.
There was comedy juggling, audience participation, visual performance elements and Kylie’s lollipop lyra act, which worked perfectly in the venue because it required no rigging while still creating a huge visual impact.
What I love about family friendly entertainment is how quickly audiences become part of the atmosphere themselves.
Once the children started laughing and reacting, the parents relaxed too.
Educators became more involved.
The audience stopped feeling separated and started feeling connected.
You could actually feel the shift happening in the room.
That’s the part of live entertainment I’ve always found most fascinating.
Not just the performance itself.
The way a crowd changes emotionally together.
What Great Open Day Entertainment Actually Does
I think great open day entertainment Sydney events should do more than simply “fill time”.
The best entertainment changes how a space feels.
It creates warmth.
It creates energy.
It helps people relax.
It creates shared moments between strangers.
That’s especially important at childcare and community events because parents aren’t just observing the entertainment. They’re subconsciously observing the atmosphere of the entire environment around them.
If children feel happy, engaged and comfortable, parents feel it too.
And honestly, that emotional connection matters far more than people realise.
The Moment the Atmosphere Changed
At one point during the show, I remember looking around and noticing almost everyone was fully engaged in the same moment.
Phones were down.
Conversations had paused.
Children were completely focused.
Parents were laughing alongside them.
Those moments always stand out to me because they feel increasingly rare now.
We live in a world where attention is constantly fragmented. Everyone is being pulled in different directions all day long.
So when live entertainment genuinely captures an entire audience at the same time, you can actually feel it physically in the room.
That feeling never really gets old.
The 5-Star Feedback That Meant the Most
Following the event, Rise & Shine Kindergarten left us a really lovely 5-star review:
“We loved Cirqular Entertainment, they were wonderful to have at our Open Day in Dundas, the audience loved them, such a fun event.”
And honestly, feedback like that means a lot because it reflects exactly what Kylie and I care about most at [Cirqular Entertainment].
Not just performing.
Not just entertaining people for half an hour.
But helping create moments where families genuinely connect, laugh and enjoy being present together.
Why I Still Love Performing Family Entertainment
Even after years of performing at corporate events, festivals, cruise ships and live entertainment experiences around the world, there’s still something incredibly special about family audiences.
Children remind you very quickly whether something feels real or not.
There’s no pretending.
No fake reactions.
No polite applause.
Just honest human response.
And honestly, I think that’s why performing family entertainment still teaches me so much about audiences, atmosphere and human connection every single time I step on stage.
